Wessex Greenways Association is a Community Interest Company (CIC) set up by Wiltshire Climate Alliance to improve, enhance, develop and deliver greenways across and beyond Wiltshire and Swindon. A greenway is a walking, wheeling and cycling route away from traffic, ideally in a biodiverse and bioabundant setting.

The CIC has representatives from a number of Wiltshire and other active travel advocacy groups.

Program Outline

To develop and deliver interurban greenways joining settlements large and small across Wiltshire and linking to other counties across Wiltshire's boundaries.

Each greenway will deliver convenient, safe and attractive walking, wheeling, and cycling routes within a nature corridor.

Outcomes

  • Safe walking, wheeling and riding routes across the region, reducing car use and providing green corridors and safe offroad access for all.

  • Healthier and happier communities with active travel as a viable first choice.

  • Better active-travel links between towns, villages and countryside

  • Increased biodiversity across the area, giving wildlife its own corridors.

Phase 1 - a stable platform to attract funding to deliver route elements

  • the development of an overall long-term plan for routes across the county and detailed route design for an initial phase

  • land acquisition

  • planning for route implementation

Key Partners to engage with

  • Local and national cycling, walking and disability advocacy groups

  • Local communities with local knowledge

  • Town and Parish councils
