Vision, Objectives and Strategy

Wiltshire Climate Alliance (WCA) is an umbrella organisation for groups and individuals in Wiltshire*1 to work together to promote action on the Climate and Ecological Emergency.

Our Vision:

A climate and nature friendly, net zero carbon*2 and ecologically sustainable Wiltshire by 2030.

 

Our Objectives:

  1. To build a coalition of like-minded Wiltshire organisations and individuals to work together to achieve our vision;

  2. To both support and challenge local government, business, civil society and other organisations in taking action towards achieving our vision;

  3. To support our members in taking individual and collective action towards achieving a shared vision.

 

Our Strategy:

  • Establish the basis and build the capacity to achieve our objectives (e.g. steering group, membership, skills base, knowledge base, website and communications);

  • Engage and work with local authorities, businesses and the community to stimulate and support action by target organisations*3 to meet our objectives;

  • Provide a sustained level of scrutiny of target organisations to ensure they take action to meet net zero carbon and nature recovery targets for 2030; 

  • Develop an accessible bank of evidence-based information on the Climate and Ecological Emergency and how to address it;

  • Share information with members, coordinate campaigns and organise activities to support and challenge target organisations to take stronger action to achieve our vision;

  • Collaborate and/ or affiliate with other organisations or campaigns whose objectives and activities align with our vision;

  • Increase awareness of the challenges and report on progress being made through targeted media and communication channels (e.g. website, social media, press).

 

 

Notes:

  1. The county of Wiltshire, including the Borough of Swindon

  2. In accordance with science based definitions of climate neutral and carbon neutral 

  3. Target organisations include (but not limited to):

    • Local Authorities (Wiltshire Council and Swindon Borough Council);

    • Town and Parish councils throughout the county;

    • Members of Parliament representing Wiltshire and Swindon constituencies;

    • Schools, Further and Higher Education institutions;

    • Utility providers (Energy, Water, Waste and Transport);

    • Swindon and Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership (SWLEP);

    • Wiltshire based businesses and business organisations.
