I am part of a group in the village of Aldbourne called Carbon Neutral Aldbourne. We have a number of different projects happening to move Aldbourne towards carbon neutrality and to increase biodiversity.
One of our aims is to create more wild spaces in the village. Does anyone in this group have any experience of working with their Parish Council or Wiltshire Council to change the mowing practices? Our road verges and green spaces (including road verges way out of the village) are ripped apart every few weeks. Just as some of the hardier wildflowers find a way to bloom again they are shredded along with the insects that they support.
We would really like to see areas where it is safe to do so left to provide safe habitat for our local wildlife. If others in this group feel the same perhaps we could start working together to show that there is wider support for this idea across Wiltshire?
